What can you expect from your lawyer during the Covid-19 crisis?
A) I have a case already pending in court
Will my court hearing continue?
In principle preliminary hearings, plea hearings and judgments/judgments by the Covid-19 measures (undetermined) postponed.
If your hearing is postponed indefinitely, the District Attorney's Office will automatically notify You of the new hearing date.
The other possibility is that your case will be postponed to a new hearing date that has already been determined.
After all, there are some exceptions to the rule :
- Council chambers on remand
- (High-pressing) pleading cases
- (High-pressing) judgments
If your case involves any of the above exceptions, your case will be well handled.
Whether a case will proceed will be decided separately by the handling court and chamber.
BANNISTER LAWYERS
- Naturally, Bannister Lawyers carefully follows up on each case individually and we notify each client of postponements ( and the new hearing date).
- We remain available both by phone and email. (03 369 28 00 / info@bannister.be)
What if your lawyer does not come to plead?
At the hearing, you should either present in person to be either by a lawyer represented to be.
If neither your attorney nor yourself were present at the hearing, a decision will still be made in your case.
Depending on the procedure, it will be necessary to find out what steps you can still take.
Bannister Lawyers can find out for you what is still possible in your situation.
BANNISTER LAWYERS
- Our lawyers will observe the exceptional sessions for you.
- We represent our clients if necessary ( when you cannot attend yourself).
What if your lawyer does not visit YOU in prison?

You may opt to defer your case during this exceptional situation, or to be represented by your attorney.
We will advise you comprehensively regarding this decision.
Prisons allow lawyers to visit clients.

- We ensure to be optimally available by phone 24/7 for clients from prison. Because of this crisis, inmates receive additional phone credit that allows them to stay in close contact with their attorney.
